The big number to pay attention to with Apple earnings these days, as Yahoo Finance’s Dan Howley notes, is average selling price (ASP) for iPhone. This time, ASP came in at $694.57, beating the $691 ASP of the first quarter last year, and beating Wall Street expectations of $688.
Apple's (AAPL.O) shares were up 5.1 percent at $127.40 after the company's earnings and iPhone sales blew past expectations in the latest quarter.

Many of the workers on the third shift are lower paid temporary workers who have been hired or rehired over the last several years. The United Auto Workers exploited the precarious position of these workers in an attempt to pressure them to vote for the 2015 UAW-GM agreement, which facilitates the layoff of workers. They have now been thrown out onto the streets and as of today will no longer have medical benefits for themselves and their families

Ci guardiamo in casa adesso ? Ecco.

Just as Republicans prepare to repeal Obamacare, there are signs that the health care law is more popular than ever.
A new poll from Fox News finds that 50 percent of voters feel favorably about the Affordable Care Act — a sharp uptick from the 41 percent who felt favorably about the law the last time the network polled, in the summer of 2015.

L'uomo tende a corrompersi ...

Submitted by Jonathan Rochford via Narrow Road Capital,
The recent blow-up of the Dallas Police and Fire Pension System was entirely predictable. Whilst it is tempting to blame unusual circumstances for the recent lock-up of redemptions and likely substantial reductions to pensions for those still in the fund, many other American pension funds are heading down the same road. The combination of overpriced financial markets, inadequate contributions and overly generous pension promises mean dozens of US local and state government pension plans will end up in the same situation. The simple maths and political factors at play mean what happened at GM, Chrysler, Detroit and now Dallas will happen nationwide in the coming decade. So, what’s happened in Dallas and why will it happen elsewhere?
