During a conference call with analysts Thursday, Phanstiel said that as the year progresses, the company will see increased quarterly earnings as the number of its commercial members rises and prices improve.
This will allow the company to achieve its previously announced 2003 financial guidance of a 15% increase in net income and earnings of between $4.25 and $4.35 a share, Phanstiel told analysts.
After the market closed Wednesday, PacifiCare announced its fourth-quarter revenue fell 5% to $2.7 billion due to a drop in health-plan membership. However, net income was $37 million, or $1 a share, compared with last year's loss of $26 million, or 77 cents a share.
