"Hong Kong’s chief executive Carrie Lam said quarantine-free travel between the city and mainland China could resume on a “relatively large-scale” by February, a major step forward in its long-held desire to reopen its border with the mainland.
Lam made the remarks during a forum on Friday, a day after she told local media that restricted quarantine-free travel across the border could resume as early as next month.
“We hope that by next February . . . we can reopen our borders [with the mainland] on a relatively larger-scale basis, such that we can hold more major events,” Lam said at the forum.
The Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, the Chinese authority overseeing the territory, said in a statement on Thursday that both sides had reached “significant consensus” over resuming quarantine-free travel, following a meeting of officials earlier this week.
Hong Kong remains committed to a zero-Covid policy, unlike other countries in the region that have moved away from the strategy.
Local officials had previously made clear that resuming travel with the mainland would come before easing restrictions for international travel."
Il mondo è fatto a scale .
C'è chi apre ,e chi chiude.
Chi crepa ,e chi no.
